This week saw us in Gwent JDA Cup action in Monmouth. We came with optimism on the back of a good run which saw us winning 2 of the last 3 games, and it was very nearly our day again. The first 10 minutes saw the pacy Monmouth outside half score 2 good tries which stirred us into action. Some great driving play & good handling saw us earning several penalties which took us close to Monmouth's line and from there Sam Jenkins crashed over to get us on the board, Alex Hoey converting. Monmouth scored again before some great scrummaging and forward play followed and Ben King crashed over to bring the scores close again.
The second half was again fiercely contested with Monmouth getting another try then the T's getting 2 tries of our own through Tyler Thomas & Ben King's 2nd. Monmouth scored 2 more tries to round off a cracking game which our boys had played a huge part in.
I believe we should heap masses of credit onto our boys today as they fell foul of some very dubious refereeing decisions, which seemed to favour the home team to say the least, but never let it affect their play. By the way the coaches made sure the ref knew exactly what they felt, all in a polite manner of course 🤔. The amount of effort and work rate we saw was phenomenal, there were some outstanding individual performances with huge carries, textbook tackling and jackling, cracking up & under catches & strong scrummaging all through the game. If anything we were too nice on the day at the rucks and this seemed to go against us with the ref as he let Monmouth get away with lots of infringements, learn to play the ref is today's motto.
Praise goes to today's man of the match Caerion Barton, with team picking up the clubman for another improved performance.
