Nelson were this weeks visitors to Hilltop on a Sunny day perfect for rugby. Our 3 previous encounters have seen Nelson winning by both close & not so close margins so we knew we'd have to front up if today was going to be any different. From the first whistle it was obvious this was going to be a cracking game with both sides coming to play rugby. Nelson got 2 early tries, both through the middle of the park & probably due to poor tackling technique more than anything. The T's then came storming back & replied with Ben King scoring in the corner after a spell of pressure. Some great play by forwards & backs alike followed before another Nelson try ended the half.
Half time words of wisdom meant the 2nd half started in the same manner as the 1st with massive commitment across the park boosted this week by the 6 U12's who never looked out of place & wouldn't take a backward step. Thanks & credit go to them for playing up in the U13's & their presence certainly helped lift our own boys performances. Nelson got 3 more tries, again through weak tackling before the T's got back to scoring ways with a cracking Owain Herridge try wide out, converted well by Alex Hoey & then 2 more tries for the unstoppable Ben King, again converted expertly by Alex Hoey. The match ended 26-36 to Nelson but the home fans knew this was a cracking performance that the boys could be proud of. The players were left under no illusions from the coaches that this was the start of things to come & that some more of the same effort will bring the results we're all looking for. Man of the Match award went to Ben King with George Evans collecting the clubman award.
Well done boys, can't wait for next week already.
