Parents do us proud!!

On the busiest shopping weekend of the year, after a Saturday in Llandovery with Blaenau Gwent Schools Under 11 and an away game in Tondu, we must applaud and thank the parents of the the Under 11's age group for committing so much to their children.
On Saturday, ten sets of RTB parents gave up their day to watch their boys play in fabulous the BG schools U11 victory over the team representing Dinefwr schools. All RTB players played with their usual vigour and did themselves proud at the schools level.

Sunday came and the RTB Steelers took a good squad to Tondu to play a game in 'tropical' conditions. As a group we had faced Tondu previously at Under 9 pathway. The game started in a very competetive manner and Tondu put a great deal of pressure on the RTB try line. Several attempts were made to clear the lines, but Tondu kept coming back. The RTB team showed malaise after the travelling down the A470, however this was not to last for long and clinical attack formulated by the backs was superbly finished by Josh Davies, for the T's to take a lead against the run of play.
Tondu responded almost immediately scoring a fine try up the right wing.
This spurred RTB into action and the forwards started to power across the gain line, led by Mitch Parker and the 'limousine bull' Charlie Birch. Good interlinking through forwards and backs ensured a few quick tries took the game away from the home side.
As Tondu tried hard to compete, gaps began to appear and Josh Davies and Thom Chaffey were making regular inroads to the spaces that were appearing out wide.
A score of 25 points to 5 in favour of RTB was probably not a fair reflection of the first half, however as we entered the second period, the advantage was certainly with the visitors. RTB started to dominate all area's of play, Liam Price led at the scrum by taking a number of strikes against the head, the ruck area was dominated by Dylan Edwards and Max Gregory and unselfish link play by Lewis Prendergast at No'10 created a number of good openings with the ball that the were clinically finished by Ryan Dennington and the in-form Josh Davies.
A further six tries followed in the second half, to finish the game at 55 points to 10 in favour of the Steelers.
We thank Tondu for a game played in tremendous spirit, it was great to travel outside the ice bound area of Blaenau Gwent and play opposition from another region, it is fair to say that if this had been a home game, jack frost would have claimed the fixture.
Next week the BG schools team play Swansea Schools at St Helens, so that will provide a great honour for boys from RTB playing in that game. The group will reform next sunday for the last scheduled home game of 2016, followed by the Xmas trip to a trampoline park.
