RTB Steelers visit the heartlands of Wales!!

On a weekend where Blaenau Gwent BG deemed all pitches unplayable, the Steelers U11's were forced to explore the heartlands of Wales in search of rugby. Thankfully a last minute fixture was arranged in the depths of the Rhondda valley against Cambrian Coltz.
After a little difficulty finding the ground and the sight of colliery wheels on the way up the valley reminded all of our heritage. Upon arrival, the group warmed up in preparation for the battle ahead. The conditions were heavy and possibly resembled the Battle of the Somme, however this suited the RTB pack.
Upon kick off, the RTB group dominated territory and managed to score a couple of tries through good work by Mitch Parker and Jamie Reynolds. Cambrian Coltz proved what a proud outfit they are and came back with ferocity in a game that was not for the faint hearted. In a battle royal, the Steelers had to pull on all their experience to ensure that the team continue to play in the home side's half. Every time Cambrian cleared their lines, the ever reliable full back Josh Davies ensured that the RTB continued to go forward.
As the games progressed into the second period, the RTB outside half Lewis Prendergast started to dictate proceedings to link well with the power-house Charlie Birch, the deadly Ryan Dennington and Owen Jones to put breathing space between the two sides. The game was a pure team effort and the immense work of the pack created the platform for a fine victory through Joseph O'Farrell, Maxwell Gregory, Mason Lewis and the durable scrum half Dylan Edwards.
A final score of 55 points to 10 in favour of the Ebbw Vale side possibly flattered the visitors, Cambrian never gave up and played good rugby and were a credit to the coaches and parents. Both teams played with tremendous skill and endeavour in difficult conditions.
RTB Steelers wish the Rhondda outfit all the best for the rest of the season and we look forward to playing the group again in the future.
After fixtures on the road in Cardiff, Maesteg and the Rhondda, the scheduled game in Forgeside next week will hopefully provide the parents with a deserved lie-on and reduced fuel costs. We thank all parents for such great support over recent weeks.
