RTB U14s beat a big Abertillery side up Hilltop in an entertaining game. In damp conditions both sides try to move the ball at every opportunity but nobody crossed the whitewash till scrum half Ceejay Purnell moved the ball from a quick ruck to No 8 Gethin Hale who showed good pace to get around one defender and hold the ball up to offload to wing Xander Davies who scored in the corner. At 5-0 to RTB at halftime the home side went flat out from the start to get a score on the board and from a lineout in their own 22 RTBs backs moved the ball across the line to speedy winger Iestyn Powell who put his ears back and run 70m to touchdown under the sticks which was converted by Ceejay purnell 12-0 to RTB. After this a good 10mins of sustained pressure from Abertillery come to nothing as a turnover in RTBs 22 was moved again quickly to wing Iestyn Powell who raced from 80m to score his 2nd try of the day and put RTB 17-0 to the good. Again Abertillery launched everything in attack using their two big props as battering rams and the pressure from this resulted in a pick and drive short range try for Abertillery. With 7 mins left Abertillery charged down an attempted clearance kick and dived on the loose ball to score their 2nd try. Score 17-12 and a frantic last 5 mins ensued with Abertillery camped on RTBs line but unable to get the match sealing try. When the final whistle went there was jubilant RTBs players everywhere and some tired bodies slumped on the ground from both sides. A great game was then followed by a good turnout up RTBs club for food and drinks👍🏻
