Battle with Croesy

An unusual cold and crisp winter morning set the scene for RTBs Under 10’s game v Croesyceiliog, although inaccurate post code supplied led the group to visit Newport, prior to locating the ground in Cwmbran. Upon arrival, both teams started the game with vigour after weeks of inactivity as a result of the poor weather. Three sessions of rugby were played and a score of 15-15 points was a fair reflection of the first period, Joseph O’Farrell, Thomas Chaffey, John Atkinson and Cameron Boulter were prominent in the early exchanges. As the second period commenced, some of the more experienced players of the RTB outfit entered the fray and started to dominate the encounter. Good passing movement in the middle from Leon Williams, Mitch Parker and Johann Francis allowed the prolific try scorer, Josh Davies, to reap the reward and add to an impressive number of tries collected during the season.

As the game progressed to a conclusion, the Croesy outfit never gave up and battled hard to the end, they have made great progress as the season has evolved. However the dominance shown by the T’s in the rucking facet of the game, in particular Callum Rooker and Maxwell Gregory, ensured the possession gained by the visitors proved the catalyst for a fine victory. The final score was 50 points to 15 in favour of the RTB Steelers was a deserved reward for all the hard work put in by all who took the field for RTB..

The group have many challenges ahead in a busy conclusion to the season. This Wednesday the group take on the ‘Pride of Dragons South’,  Risca U 10’s in a floodlit spectacular at Eugene Cross Park. The previous encounter in October ended in a drawn contest between two evenly matched opponents. Please come along to support the boys in what promises to be a titanic struggle.
