Mammoth effort in the City!

RTB Steelers u10's played their first game of 2016 in the capital city this morning. The opposition was Llanishen U10's, who are widely recognised as one of the strongest age group teams in Cardiff and the Vale.
The 'Steelers' group who left Ebbw Vale had a bare 10 players and no subtitutes. That put pressures on the team and asked questions over fitness and endurance.
We should not have worried and a gigantic struggle between two very high quality teams pursued.
The home side started brightly and soon took the lead, however the ability of the Steelers to cross the gain line always ensured the T's were on the front foot.
A very close encounter finished the first half 15 points to 10 in favour of the visitors (RTB).
As the Steelers started the second half, the lead was expanded to 25-15. The expansive game and fabulous skills of the home side exerted pressure, however the 'Steelers' defence showed its usual vigour to keep the home side at bay.
As we entered the final minute the score was in favour of the 'Steelers' 25-20, however a quick break from the ruck by the Llanishen half back leveled the gameat 25 points all, one more chance was available to the 'Steelers', however Llanishen held out for a draw that was a fair reflection of a fabulous and high quality contest.
Congratulations to all players who participated and many thanks to parents for taking the time to transport the children down to Cardiff to play rugby.
As the group moves forward through the pathways, such trips to play strong opposition along the M4 corridor will become more commonplace and will help development. The game was a wonderful experience and it is hoped Llanishen will become a regular fixture in the age group calendar.
The team who competed so manfully today on behalf of RTB Steelers was:
Josh Davies, Maxwell Gregory, Charlie Birch, Lewis Prendergast, Dylan Edwards, Mitch Parker, Jamie Reynolds, Leon Williams, Callum Rooker, Joseph O'Farrell.
