RTB Steelers U10's overcome opposition from across Wales to win Festival.

The U10's left the North Gwent valley to participate in the Newbridge RFC Festival of rugby today, on arrival the group was faced with the unenviable task of being positioned in what was called the 'Group of Death' by all participants.

The group began the challenge facing our local rivals Abertillery, that was quickly followed by Mountain Ash, Hafodrynys, the highly regarded Blackwood outfit. All these were overcame without conceding a try. That set up a group shoot out against Pontypridd, both teams had 100% record and something had to give, as only one team could progress from the group.
The Steelers team competed as if their lives depended upon it, and in a very physical encounter, shaded the game by 2 tries to nil.
That set up a final against the very dangerous Nantyfyllon outfit from up the Maesteg valley who had dispatched all competition aside within their group.
The 'Steelers' dominated the final, neutralising the potential damage that may have been created by the large 'Nanty' forwards with immense defence. The team was a credit to all family, coaches and the RTB club. The final was won with a 4-1 victory. The try conceded in the final was the only time the RTB line was breached in the day.
All boys representing the group played superbly, the commitment on the field was immense and tackling was the benchmark for any team wishing to progress in our sport.
The players who represented RTB today were:
Jamie Reynolds, Leon Williams, Mitchell Parker, Liam Price, Callum Rooker, Mason Lewis, John Atkinson, Dylan Edwards, Lewis Prendergast, Charlie Birch, Josh Hathway, Owen Jones, Josh Davies, Thomas Chaffey, Wesley Ives, Maxwell Gregory
This is the fourth tournament success out of the last five entered. That return shows the great commitment, reward and attitude that is shown by all.
The age group passes sincere congratulations to the RTB Steelers U7 & U9's for also winning their age grade tournaments. The strength in the club is immense and many thanks to all volunteers for making the club such a success at this time.
'There is great strength in unity, embrace the past, encourage the present and move forward to the future'.
The RTB club would like to pass on best wishes to the player from the U11 age group who suffered a serious injury and had to be transported to hospital. Have a speedy recovery and return to the pitch as soon as you can.
