Steelers finish as they started

RTB Steelers U11's completed 2016 in the capital city Cardiff, exactly where we started it in January. Then the opponents were Llanishen, today the opponents were Llanishen and St Peters in a round robin just off Newport Road.
In January v Llanishen the result was an evenly contested draw.
Today the first game up was Llanishen, a team who we have played twice and drew twice. The game started with the Cardiff outfit showing sublime handling skills to tear open the RTB defence, a 10 point to 0 margin was a fair reflection of the opening exchanges. However, the RTB group are resilient and managed to claw their way back into the game. Strength and commitment in defence and the ruck area ensured RTB held advantages in the amount of possession held and two tries evened the game up at half time.
The second half continued in the same manner and RTB managed to forge a 20 point to 10 advantage. However, Llanishen are a very good side and started to use the flanks to their advantage and another try to the Cardiff outfit set up a nervy conclusion. Both sides were battling hard to score and it was Llanishen, through their talented backs who earned the score to draw the game 20 points apiece.
The result was a fair outcome and both sides showed great admiration for each other at the end of the contest.

The second game of the day was against St Peters, a team that contained many Cardiff Schools District players.
From the off the RTB lads put great pressure on St Peters and this prevented them playing in the manner they are accustomed. Led by captain Charlie Birch, all the RTB players committed to the cause.
Such commitment ensured the backs had time to play themselves and a couple of swift tries put the game out of reach.
The final result of 15 points to 5 in favour of RTB Steelers was a deserved outcome.
Both games were superbly refereed and playing such fine teams will only serve to aid long term development of the players and the group.
All players performed with credit today, however Max Gregory, Charlie Birch, Dylan Edwards, Owen Jones, Joe Moseley and Cameron Boulter put in particular fine displays and deserve a special mention.
It is now time for the group to rest and enjoy the festive season, 2016 has been another fabulous year with some tremendous memories.
We wish all at RTB a great Xmas and also pass on seasons greetings to all our friends in the rugby community.
